Rangers went into Sunday's crunch clash against Celtic knowing the Hoops could win their first Scottish Premier League title in four years at Ibrox and rub salt into the Gers' wounds in a season to forget.
However, McCoist's players responded in terrific fashion, with goals from Sone Aluko, Andy Little and Lee Wallace clinching victory.
The Gers gaffer admits he was blown away by the backing from the stands as Rangers cruised to victory.
McCoist told Blues News: "I'd have to say I thought the atmosphere created by the Rangers fans was one of the best I've ever heard at Ibrox at the weekend.
"I was talking to the gaffer (Walter Smith) about it afterwards and we were both in agreement.
"The atmosphere from the Rangers fans was absolutely fantastic.
"Two of the best games I've been involved in were against Dynamo Kiev and Leeds United but, as Old Firm games go, that took a bit of beating.
"The fans needed a wee break and, thankfully, the players gave them one. It was a welcome result."
Meanwhile, the Rangers Fans' Fighting Fund has reached £250,000 as big-hearted supporters continue to pledge money to save the club.
