BESIKTAS have assured Allan McGregor they are confident they can cut through the red tape and get him international clearance to play.

The Scotland keeper is unable to star for his new Turkish team because the SFA have refused to grant clearance for the player as Rangers are demanding £2million for the 30-year-old.

McGregor signed a two-year deal last month, but there was even speculation in Turkey that Besiktas could cut their losses on McGregor and cancel the contract.

However, they remain confident they will eventually be able to field the former Ibrox No.1 after taking the matter to Fifa.

Time is in short supply for the Istanbul club as the Turkish season starts this weekend.

"Rangers are currently passing through financial and legal troubles and this has meant that any players transferred from Rangers are subject to these difficulties," a club statement read.

"The situation is not unique to Allan McGregor, several Rangers players who left the club are in the same position.

"Players are subject to an employment contract, in accordance with the law and there has been negativity about the position of Allan McGregor.

"We have requested international clearance and we will have to go down a different route from the normal procedure.

"Fifa are involved and the licence procurement process is still ongoing.

"Allan McGregor will still be our player in the new season and we have every faith in him."

The former Dunfermline Athletic shot-stopper is not the only former Ibrox star to be facing a tough task in plying their trade elsewhere.

Sone Aluko at Hull City and Rhys McCabe at Sheffield Wednesday are in limbo until the SFA rule on the matter.
