FORMER leading trainer Henrietta Knight has announced her retirement from racing.
Knight, 65, a three-times Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, will give up her National Hunt licence to spend more time with her husband, Terry Biddlecombe, the former champion jump jockey who suffered a stroke last October.
Knight will forever by linked with Best Mate, who won three consecutive Gold Cups at the Cheltenham Festival between 2002-04.
The trainer said: "After much deliberation, and largely due to my husband Terry Biddlecombe's continued ill health, I have decided to hand in my trainer's licence.
"I have been incredibly lucky to have experienced some wonderful moments since I first began training in 1989."
Knight also trained, Edredon Bleu, who was successful in the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2000 and was one of the best two-mile chasers in living memory.
The majority of horses still under Knight's care will not be transferred to Mick Channon.
