GLASGOW boxer Stewart Burt admits he is still on Cloud Nine after getting his pro career off to a winning start.

The Newton Mearns fighter defeated Fonz Alexander over four rounds on Sunday night during the Morrison Promotions show at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.

While the exertions of Charlie Flynn and Joe Ham received many plaudits in the press, onlookers on the night were taken aback by the mature and disciplined showing by Burt.

The fighter, who was first previewed in SportTimes earlier this year, is now enjoying some down time before he looks to progress in the new year and enter the ring at the end of February.

And the electrician explained how he is buzzing after a debut to remember.

"I'm still sky high, it couldn't have gone any better, everything went to plan," explained the 24-year-old. "I'm on Cloud Nine.

"Everyone was saying it was the best they'd ever seen me and it just shows I'm more suited to the professional game.

"The first round was probably my best round. I came out quite sharp and was landing hits and really just trying to keep him at the end of my jab.

"I was trying to stick to smart boxing than just get tore in! Which was difficult given it was a home crowd.

"It was about showing skill and discipline. He is an ex-Navy guy so he likes to tear things up and turn it into a fight. So the plan was to stick to the boxing and not get dragged into anything else.

"Thankfully that's how it turned out."

In what was his first fight since turning from the amateur ranks into the professional arena, Burt admits he was overwhelmed by the intoxicating experience of fighting in such a big crowd.

It is something he is keen to get addicted to.

"After the fight I only saw the minute and 20 seconds Joe fought in," said Burt. "it was just non-stop with people congratulating me and wanting pictures. That last until the end of the show.

"My adrenaline was sky high and after the show I just came rocketing back down to earth, I was exhausted and had to go to bed, so no big celebrations.

"Hopefully there will be plenty more opportunities for me in the future."
