RICKY BURNS will finally get to live his American dream - in Texas.

The former two-weight world champion had been tipped to appear in Las Vegas on April 18 as part of a big-money bout with ex-WBC lightweight champ Omar Figueroa.

However, SportTimes can exclusively reveal that a deal has been done for the pair to go head-to-head in the Lone Star State instead of America's gambling capital.

The fight has been scheduled for May 9 and will give 31-year-old Burns the opportunity to build on his triumph in Leeds back in October over Alexandre Lepelley.

Undefeated Figueroa, who hails from Texas, will pose a tough test for the Scot after recording 18 knockouts in 25 fights and having only lost his title as a result of being sidelined due to a severe cut.

Burns' manager Alex Morrison told SportTimes: "Ricky will finally get his chance to fight in the United States.

"It is going to happen and, even though it has been moved to Texas from Las Vegas, it's still a great opportunity for him."

The news of Burns' Texas showdown comes just days after SportTimes revealed the Scottish boxing icon was in line to feature in a triple header later on in the year with Charlie Flynn and British and Commonwealth champion Willie Limond.

The proposed fight night would see three of the country's top boxers star in a Morrison show away from the cameras and in front of thousands of home fans.

While it is unclear if Burns appearing State side a month later than expected will have an impact on the event - which was pencilled in for May at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow - clarity over his next challenge will offer the Lanarkshire fighter the opportunity to focus his efforts.

Burns is currently in London training with Tony Sims.
