ALEX MORRISON has backed the future of Scottish boxing to shine brightly tomorrow night.

While millions around the world watch Floyd Mayweather come to blows with Manny Pacquiao under the shimmering lights in Las Vegas, just a few hours earlier there will also be two fights of great importance in Glasgow.

Making their third appearance each as professional boxers, Stewart Burt and Joe Ham will feel the roar of a home crowd at the Gorbals Leisure Centre as they aim to bag a hat-trick of victories.

While Newton Mearns welterweight Burt is up against Yorkshireman Luke Keleher, Gorbals featherweight Ham will go toe-to-toe with Hungarian Aron Szilagyi.

Along with Charlie Flynn, who fights later this month, the two fighters have already caused a stir and have been tipped as the next generation of Scottish boxing.

Morrison believes this is the chance for both Burt and Ham to take another huge step on their path to success in the sport.

He said: "The boy playing Joe is a really strong fighter who has never been stopped. He has been in with some very good names and it's a mark of how well Joe is doing that he is up against someone of his calibre.

"He has a habit of stopping people in the early rounds and we will see what he can do. Joe is so enthusiastic and wants to box for titles already. That will stand him in good stead.

"It's his homecoming fight and it will mean a lot to him to get another victory under his belt."

Turning his attention to Burt, Morrison said of the 24-year-old: "Stewart has got a lot of natural ability. I got a bit of a surprise when I first saw him. I don't follow the amateurs that closely. I saw he was Joe Ham's stablemate and I signed him up. I got a pleasant shock when I watched him box.

"He has a lot of moves you can't teach. You just have to have the talent already.

"This will be a big night for both of them. It's a chance for them to show what ability they have and for people to get a glimpse of two future stars."

Hospitality tickets are still available for the show priced at £100 as well as some reserved and unreserved tickets at £50 and £40, respectively. For more information call Morrison's Gym on 0141-554 7777.
