STEWART BURT is set to be named on the Ricky Burns undercard at the SSE Hydro as the Glasgow boxer jets off for some California dreaming.

The 25-year-old kept his undefeated professional record going on Friday night when he overcame Zaurs Sadihovs at the City Hotel in Glasgow.

Burt has been building a reputation as a clever fighter ever since he was signed up to Alex Morrison’s stable last year.

His latest bout was certainly no different in front of the TV cameras and a bumper crowd, and SportTimes can reveal the welterweight is in line for an even bigger stage on May 28 as the Coatbridge man seeks to become a three-weight world champion.

Burt said: “I’ve heard a few rumours that I might have been fighting on Ricky Burns’ show at the Hydro but nothing was concrete.

“But after my fight on Friday I asked Alex when I’d next be in action and he said I’d be involved.

“It would be great for me to focus on after another successful fight. I felt that I did a lot of things right against Sadihovs and was always in control and on the front foot.

“It’s now all about working hard again and looking to my next fight and trying to keep going in the right direction.”

That direction seems to be west on the vacation of a lifetime for the man from Newton Mearns.

Along with friend and fellow Glasgow fighter Joe Ham, who kept his own unbeaten record going with a short contest against Dmitrijs Gutmans, Burt will fly out today to LA to visit the world famous Wild Card gym, a facility used by Manny Pacquiao.

But as well as spending time in the ring in the gym, the pair are also planning some sightseeing as well.

“We might go running up to the Hollywood hills,” said Burt. “We might even go along Santa Monica beach.

“There will be time to relax and sit by the pool but I can’t wait to get over there and train at the Wild Card gym.

“Sadly I don’t think Pacquiao will be there but we plan to go there on our first night and experience it first hand.

“We are over there for a week. I’ll make sure I take as much as I can from it and bring back everything I’ve learned to help me prepare for my next fight.”
