Scottish boxer Willie Limond is looking to provide a platform for the next generation of home-grown fighters as a host of potential stars line up in his Lock Stock Promotions event this Saturday night.

Limond may have a full schedule at the moment as he prepares for a crack at the British title against Tyrone Nurse at the Hydro in May, but he has still found time to organise what promises to be a cracking night of boxing at Bellahouston Sports Centre.

The likes of Kieran Smith, Jason Easton, Craig Kelly, Ally Black, Scott Allan and Craig McIntyre will be in action, as well as top Mexican fighters Oliver Quintanta and Paul Valenzuela, who will be joined at ringside by Erik Morales’ former trainer Raul Robles and three-time world champion Antonio Margarito.

Newcastle’s Lewis Ritson will also be going up against Hungarian fighter Bence Molnar for the WBC youth title.

For Limond though, it a chance to allow the best young Scottish talent to shine that excites him.

“We’ve got a lot of talent in Scotland, a lot of good fighters, I just don’t think it gets showcased enough,” he said.

“We’ve got a good show coming up with a few great fights. We’ve got some great prospects and a couple of title fights. We have the Mexican Valenzuela coming over who has been touted over there as the next big thing, so it will be a good chance for the Scottish public to see these fighters up close and personal before anybody else.

“We’re trying to match Scottish fighters with Scottish fighters. Look at the rivalry between Froch, Groves, Frampton and Quigg. I know that’s on a higher scale but we’re trying to do that at our level just now.

“If the fighters can get a rival then they can fight two or three times and they can make some money out of it.

“We’ve got Craig Kelly fighting Ally Black for some belts, so that will be some fight and probably the fight of the night.

“We’ve also got Scott Allan and young Kieran Smith fighting for the WBC youth belts.”

Smith, a three-time Scottish champion, is a fighter that Limond has earmarked as having a massive future ahead of him

He said: “Kieran is a cracker. I’ve been managing him from his first three fights and he’s unbeaten, and now we’re going for the fourth.

“He’s already in the top 20 in Britain. There are hundreds of fighters at his weight so for his age he’s doing brilliantly.

“We matched him tough in the first fight, and he stopped the boy in the third round. That put out a statement.

“I really feel that he could be the next big thing to come out of Scotland. He’s one of the best prospects, that’s for sure, and we’re all putting a lot of time and effort into Kieran.

“He trains constantly, 365 days a year. We’re always trying to tell him to take a couple of days off here so he doesn’t burn himself out, but he works so hard at it.

“He will reap the rewards, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he can go all the way.

“He’s only 22, and we don’t want him to lose his amateur style, because that makes him.”

There is still some limited availability for the event at Bellahouston Sports Centre on Saturday night, and tickets can be purchased by calling either 01236 766 304 or 07340 897 931 or by emailing info@lockstockpromotions.co.uk.
