EDDIE HEARN believes Ricky Burns can still be a big fight attraction as he looks to recover from his loss to Julius Indongo on Saturday night.

The 34-year-old saw his super-lightweight unification dreams shattered in Glasgow as he was outfought and outclassed by Indongo.

The Namibian added the WBA belt to his IBO and IBF crowns to leave Burns defeated and deflated.

But promoter Hearn insists there is a route back to the top for the Scot as he considers his next move in the right.

He said: “He can come back. It’s not like after the Zlaticanin fight. Back then Ricky was about 10 levels below where he is now.

“That felt like the end of the world. This time he’s lost a unification fight to a world champion.

“If he can come back from Zlaticanin, he can come back from this.

“There are big fights out there for Ricky. He would be happy fighting a four rounder at Bethnal Green.

“We don’t want him to have those kinds of fights. It’s up to us to make sure he’s in those big fights.

“Although it was a convincing points win for Indongo, it wasn’t like Ricky was battered. That was probably the worst style we could have found for him, but he was a world champion and the best chance to unify the division.

“There are big fights domestically and internationally, Adrien Broner is still out there and he will get calls to go to the United States. It’s just the case he lost to someone who was very good.”

Burns was roared on by a patriotic Glasgow crowd but he couldn’t make it a night to remember as Indongo clinched a 120-108, 118-110,116-112 points victory.

The defeat for the Coatbridge fighter capped a poor night for the Scots on home soil but Hearn hopes there can be more big bouts here sooner rather than later.

He said: “If we can get another big one then we’d love to be back in Glasgow. We don’t need any excuse to come to Scotland.

“There was 8,500 in there which is one of the biggest we’ve done and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Sky love it.

“You do need the new breed coming through. Charlie Flynn was unlucky, Josh Taylor is not with us but he’s a great talent coming through.

“Ricky has the name to top bills, pay-per-view, fight on cards in England. It’s not like we will be desperate and need to throw the net up. We need to get the next fight right though."
