ALEX MORRISON is predicting a big future for Joe Ham after he outpointed Hungarian opponent Aron Szilagyi at the Gorbals Leisure Centre.

The 23-year-old won every round of his featherweight bout to rack up his third victory as a professional, and Morrison said: "The first thing I would say is that it will have done nothing but good for Joe to go the distance, as he now knows he will not stop everyone he faces.

"But he has once again shown that he has the perfect style for the pros and although I am not going to make any silly predictions, I am confident that big things are there for Joe."

The doyen of the Scottish fight scene continued: "You saw how he put his combinations together and how he really excited the crowd, that is what we need in Scottish boxing and the key is to keep Joe busy, help him progress but not rush the job.

"We could well put him out in the Gorbals again, but I think before that Joe deserves a short rest. But he can be well pleased with the start of his pro career. We need new stars in the game up here and in Joe Ham we have one in the making, no doubt about it."

Ham said: "I suppose it was good for me to get the rounds under the belt and I wanted the stoppage, but he was a tough boy and I will benefit from that. I feel like I am learning from every fight and progressing all the time and right now that is what matters most."

Stewart Burt beat England's William Warburton to take his unbeaten welterweight resume to three victories, while there were points' victories for Motherwell flyweight prospect Adam McKenzie, Drumchapel super-featherweight Jamie McGuire and Airdrie's Barry Craig.

At light-welterweight, Kirkintilloch's Ally Black stopped Hungarian Dinars Skripkins in the first round.
