ALEX MORRISON has revealed that unbeaten Glasgow fighter Jon Slowey's meeting with Bellshill banger Kris Hughes is likely to be a British title eliminator.

The duo - on the undercard of Ricky Burns' Braehead bill on June 27 - are already battling it out for the vacant Celtic featherweight belt in a rematch of their 10-round encounter last July, which Slowey won on points for the Scottish nine-stone championship.

After a spell out of the square ring, Alex has warned Slowey that he must make the most of what is a golden opportunity.

He said: "We are very hopeful that the bout will be an eliminator for the British title as well as having the Celtic featherweight belt up for grabs.

"Hughes has the chance to avenge a painful and tight loss (the margin of defeat was 96-95 on points) while Slowey can underline he is the better boxer and close in on the Lonsdale belt."

Morrison also revealed that former two-weight world champion Burns will complete a training block under new fight coach Tony Sims later this week that has put the spring back in the Scot's step.

Morrison said: "Ricky has been working with Tony Sims and sparring with the likes of Kevin Mitchell and he loves the fact he is under the radar down south.

"I have had a couple of chats with Tony and he is a very astute tactician and I think we will see the evidence of that at Braehead against Dejan Zlaticanin."

Chief support to Burns' return to the fray will be Willie Limond's British and Commonwealth title fight with Curtis Woodhouse, and Morrison says the former is in career-best shape.

He said: "Willie has been working with Peter Harrison and he is looking electric.

"He knows this could be it for him and I would say Woodhouse is tailor-made for Willie to finally land the British title he has always longed for."
