PAUL WEIR today hailed the selection of revered English fight coach Tony Sims as a "great fit" for Ricky Burns.

The 31 year-old Scot will make his ring comeback on June 27 at Braehead against WBC No.9-ranked Serb Dejan Zlaticanin.

At stake for the winner is a tilt at the organisation's world title with Sims replacing Billy Nelson as his trainer for the first time.

Former two-weight world champ Weir, who also worked under Sims during his illustrious career, reckons the Englishman can breathe new life into Burns' boxing after his disappointing loss to Terence Crawford in March which cost him his WBO lightweight title.

Weir said: "I trained under Tony when I was boxing and worked with him in London.

"He is a great trainer and just what Ricky needs right now.

"He really studies the game and with him having been in Ricky's corner, assisting Billy Nelson in the Terence Crawford fight, he will have had first-hand experience of working with Ricky in a big fight.

"Tony has been about for a long while and he has largely flown under the radar.

"He has worked with Kevin Mitchell and Ricky has been out in Spain working at his camp. So he is a great choice for Ricky.

"I think he will work on Ricky's attributes and the one thing he will do is get Ricky off the ropes and using his height that bit more, get more movement into his footwork.

"He will also get Ricky to use his range more effectively and get that double-jab going again. As far as I can see Tony is a great fit for Ricky at this stage in his career."

When it came to Zlaticanin Weir reckons the Serb won't be worried about his impending trip to Glasgow.

He said: "The guy is undefeated, he is rated No.9 by the WBC and he has had 18 fights and won 13 by KO, so he can bang.

"Zlaticanin is 30, so he is pretty experienced and he has been around for a bit, so I don't expect coming to Scotland will bother him.

"The Serb is also a southpaw but I wouldn't expect that would cause Ricky that many problems at this stage of his career.

"Ricky has a point to prove and he knows that and he will be totally focused on producing the best performance he can and getting the win to set up another crack at a world title."
