RICKY BURNS has vowed to stay on the front foot from start to finish against Dejan Zlaticanin at the Braehead Arena tomorrow night.

The Scot will face the unbeaten Montenegrin banger in a final eliminator for the WBC lightweight title, desperate to produce a performance that will prove he is not a spent force at the elite level.

His new trainer - Essex boxing man Tony Sims - has told his charge to use his head rather than his heart against Zlaticanin.

But Burns says he needs a comprehensive victory to erase the memory of his below-par performance against Terence Crawford back in March which cost him his WBO belt.

The former two-weight world champion said: "The Crawford fight still hurts. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I should have gone for it more and really tried to dominate that fight. I don't want to make the same mistake against Zlaticanin.

"They are completely different styles in terms of how they fight, although Crawford was a switch-hitter who liked to slip into southpaw and Zlaticanin is a natural southpaw.

"But Zlaticanin comes straight in and tries to unload big hooks and he will not be difficult to find, whereas, with Crawford, he was in and out of range all the time and really elusive.

"So that means I will have the chance to really plant my feet and make sure I am putting my weight into my shots.

"Zlaticanin is the type of fighter you can't allow to swarm all over you and I will have to make sure I control the fight off the jab and lay down my authority."

Despite the fact that, at 31, his switch of trainers to Sims has come late in a career previously spent under the guidance of Billy Nelson, Burns says he has benefited hugely in the build-up to the fight.

He said: "I think you will see tomorrow night that I was right to switch trainers and, although the changes Tony has made have not been big, I am confident they will be very effective."

Zlaticanin - ranked No.13 in the world by the WBC - says he has come to win.

He added: "This is the chance I have waited for and Ricky Burns will be the biggest name on my record by tomorrow night.

"There is no pressure on me. Everyone expects Burns to win - I am here to prove them wrong."
