RICKY BURNS' preparations for his June 27 comeback fight at the Braehead Arena will be masterminded by respected English trainer Tony Sims.

The former WBO lightweight champion, who lost his title in his previous outing against Terence Crawford in March, split with long-term trainer Billy Nelson last month.

But now, after a two-week training camp in Spain spent working with Sims and his fight stable, including former opponent Kevin Mitchell, Burns' manager Alex Morrison has confirmed that the Englishman will be in charge of the Coatbridge puncher's corner next time out.

Big Alex said: "Tony was involved in Ricky's corner for the Crawford fight when he assisted Billy Nelson, and after Ricky spent the last two weeks in Spain working with him, we have decided to go with Tony.

"We were well aware that there needed to be some adjustments made after the Crawford fight, and I am hoping Sims will help Ricky re-discover his double jab and have him spending a lot less time on the ropes than he did under Billy Nelson.

"But boxing is just like anything else in that there can come a time when it is good to try something new and go with a fresh pair of eyes.

"The last fortnight has confirmed for Ricky that Tony Sims can take him back to where he belongs."

Burns is likely to face No.5-rated WBC silver champion Javier Prieto, who boasts a 31-fight ring resume with 24 wins and seven losses. He is the option favoured by Team Burns and the foe most likely to come to Glasgow for a barn-burner.

Meanwhile, Morrison is in talks to lure pound-for-pound ring king Floyd Mayweather to Glasgow for a dinner and chat night the week before Burns returns to the square ring.

Big Alex said: "We have made contact with Mayweather's agent and started discussions on bringing Floyd to Glasgow.

"It is early, but it would be a masterstroke to bring the best boxer on the planet to the city and I am sure it would make for a really interesting night for any sports fan, never mind boxing aficionado."
