CHARLIE FLYNN was in prestigious company as the great and the good of Scottish boxing gathered in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games hero was honoured at the Scottish Ex-Boxers' Association with the Dick McTaggart award for his contribution to the sport over 2014.

Along with Prestonpans fighter Josh Taylor, Flynn collected the award from the man himself at the Iron Horse pub on West Nile Street, with Willie Limond picking up the Boxer of the Year award.

And speaking exclusively to SportTimes, the Newarthill fighter, who will step into the ring on March 6 in his second fight since turning professional, said: "It was great to be here and pick up the award, especially with it being an intimate venue.

"It was just a lot of people I've grown up with and a lot of old friends, and that helps make it that bit more special.

"These things are always great to be a part of and it was amazing to be awarded the Dick McTaggart award from the man himself. Dick was a hero of mine, so to receive it from him was an honour."

Among other faces in attendance included Ken Buchanan and Alex Morrison.

SEBA secretary Hugh Dickson said: "We always get a good turnout at these awards, but to have guys like Charlie, Josh and Alex in attendance, is a privilege.

"All the boxers who received awards thoroughly deserve it in what was a brilliant year for Scottish boxing. I'm confident the next year will bring just as much success for these guys as the last."
