TOMMY GILMOUR has revealed his disappointment that Willie Limond has been forced to fight a final British title eliminator to earn his third crack at the Lonsdale belt.

The 35-year-old is slated to punch it out with unbeaten Welshman Chris Jenkins for a shot at British title holder Curtis Woodhouse, who has now reversed his decision to hang up his gloves.

But Gilmour is far from happy that Commonwealth title-holder Limond has not been given a straight chance at the champion and admits he has other title irons in the fire.

The St Andrew's club supremo said: "Willie has been ordered by the British Boxing Board of Control to fight Chris Jenkins in a final eliminator for the British title and that is something we are very disappointed about.

"I have the backing of the Scottish Area Council in this, in that it is not right a Commonwealth champion is being forced to fight an eliminator for the British title.

"Things have been further confused by the fact Curtis Woodhouse, the British champion, retired immediately after he beat Darren Hamilton to win the title and has now decided to reverse that decision.

"Willie has a lot of options open to him and hopefully by the end of the week the picture will become a lot clearer."

Meanwhile, Govanhill's Ryan McNicol will get the chance to box for his first professional title at next week's St Andrew's Club promotion when he meets Glenrothes-based Latvian Andrejs Podusovs in what will be his 41st fight.

Gilmour said: "Ryan will face Podusovs for the vacant British Masters lightweight title and I can't think of a fighter who deserves the opportunity more.

"Ryan has been on the end of so many close-run points losses but now he has his chance to claim a first ever pro title.

"Both men want it but I think it will come down to who has the most desire."
