TOMMY GILMOUR is hoping Kris Carslaw is just one fight away from a second crack at the British light-middleweight title.

The Paisley puncher beat English banger Max Maxwell a fortnight ago at the Paisley Lagoon Centre to push him into contention for a revenge crack at champion Brian Rose.

Maxwell holds a win over the British title holder who, with the aid of a head gash, beat Carslaw two years ago in Manchester.

Gilmour had hoped to get Carslaw into a final eliminator for the British title, which fell through.

But he said: "Kris put that to one side and came back to beat Maxwell, and now I have written to the British Boxing Board of Control pushing his case to get his opportunity.

"It has taken almost two years for Kris to work his way back to where he was, but I believe he has become a better boxer for all of that experience. Now he is almost ready to cash in on that."

Gilmour is also looking for another of his comeback kids, Castlemilk's Scottish middleweight champion Gary McCallum, to close in on a Lonsdale Belt battle.

After a disappointing defeat to experienced Jason Ball, the St Andrew's Club supremo got him back in the gym and he beat Dee Mitchell.

Gilmour said: "I really believe he is ready to kick on now into British title contention. So, again, we have pushed Gary's case with the British Boxing Board of Control."
