TOMMY GILMOUR has opened negotiations to bring a European title fight to Glasgow for Willie Limond.

The St Andrew's Sporting Club chief has had preliminary talks with new European light-welterweight champion Michele di Rocco's camp – and Gilmour is hopeful a late Autumn date in the city may be possible.

Gilmour said: "I have made contact with Di Rocco's people and we have had made a reasonable start to negotiations over him coming to Glasgow, possibly in November, to defend against Willie.

"Obviously, these will continue as there are a lot of things that need to be reached agreement on. But I would say I am hopeful we can move them on positively.

"But Di Rocco has just won his title after a hard-fought 12-round points win over Lenny Daws and given that Willie has come through a brutal first defence of his Commonwealth title, there is no rush for either boxer to be back in action too early.

"But I have pushed a November date and it has not been met negatively."

Italian Di Rocco is 31 and an orthodox boxer who, although he has stopped 15 of his 37 opponents and only lost once, is not recognised as a one punch knock-out artist.

And Gilmour says Limond, 34, will be ready.

He said: "Willie is ahead of schedule in terms of how he is healing a fortnight after he sustained a broken hand. He would have no problems with a November fight."
