Ricky Burns has named his first opponent as he bids to resurrect his world title dreams and kick-start his career.

The former two-weight world

champion confirmed he will take on

Argentinian Leonardo Esteban Gonzalez, 32, over 10 rounds in Leeds on October 4 after moving up a division in weight.

The Coatbridge fighter has failed to win any of his last three fights at 135lbs - including the defeat to American

Terence Crawford in March which cost him his WBO world lightweight title.

He was also involved in a controversial draw with Raymundo Beltran 12 months ago, but the Scot admits it was his split decision loss to Dejan Zlaticanin in June which convinced him it was time to move up to 140lbs. Burns said: "The lightweight limit was proving tough so that's now behind me and I can concentrate on my boxing."

TENNIS: Great Britain's Davis Cup team have been drawn at home to the United States in the first round of the World Group from March 6-8 next year.

Britain secured their place at the elite level for a second consecutive season by upsetting USA in San Diego in February and then lost narrowly to Italy in the quarter-finals.

USA had been favoured to win the last tie but their choice of clay backfired and James Ward's victory over Sam Querrey coupled with two wins for Andy Murray decided it.

A home tie will not necessarily make Britain favourites this time, though, given USA were without No.1 John Isner last year.

Picking a surface will not be that easy for captain Leon Smith and his team given the fast indoor court they have selected for home ties in the past would also suit the US.

And the prowess of the Americans' doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan means whoever is picked as number two singles player - probably Ward - will likely need to win a rubber.

It will be Britain's first home match since April 2013, when they recovered from a 2-0 deficit to stun Russia at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.

Victory for Britain over the US would mean another home tie against either top seeds France or Germany in July, while the pick of the other first-round ties are derby matches between Argentina and Brazil and Serbia and Croatia.
