RICKY BURNS has been warned that Terence Crawford will come out with all guns blazing on Saturday night.

Former two-weight world champion Paul Weir says the unbeaten Nebraskan will look to blow the Coatbridge fighter away by unleashing a whirlwind of leather.

Cocky Crawford arrived in Glasgow just five days before the event on the back of a 22-fight resumé that boasts 16 knock-outs.

He will have watched as his stablemate Raymundo Beltran broke the WBO lightweight champion's jaw in the second round of their title fight last September yet was only handed a draw with the Scot at the end of 12 pulsating rounds.

All of which has made Weir - a former WBO minimum weight and light-flyweight champion and now a respected fight coach, wary that Crawford will throw everything at Burns in the opening rounds.

He said: "For me Crawford comes out all guns blazing and Ricky will need to be at his most concentrated in the first three rounds, if not for the first-half of the fight.

"Crawford is a class act and he throws clusters of punches. If Ricky lets his focus drop he will end up on his back. But he can come back from a set-back like that to win.

"The Americans will have watched the tape of the Beltran fight and of Ricky's defence against Jose Gonzalez, and they will really fancy the job.

"You have to be honest, and I have said this to Ricky's face, he was poor against Gonzalez and although he showed enormous courage against Beltran he was lucky to get the draw. But all of that could work in his favour, because I can really see the Americans expecting Crawford to blow Ricky away. When that doesn't happen Ricky will break his heart."

Weir reckons Burns' superior work ethic and sheer size may also help him upset the bookies and shock the Yanks.

He said: "I watched Crawford beat Breidis Prescott (the first boxer to beat and stop Amir Khan) and he picked his shots and kept on the move. What he did not do is work every minute of every round.

"The one thing you can't take away from Ricky is his work ethic. He will throw punches all night long and I think the longer the fight goes the more that will be a problem for Crawford.

"The other thing that is going to shock Crawford is Ricky's sheer size. Crawford is tall for a lightweight at 5ft 8ins but Ricky is two inches taller. He is also physical in the ring.

"For me work-rate and sheer physicality are two factors that will become increasingly important as the fight goes deep."
