EDDIE HEARN has warned Terence Crawford he may have made a fatal mistake by arriving in Scotland just five days before he takes on Ricky Burns for his WBO lightweight title at the SECC.

The unbeaten American and his team arrived in Glasgow yesterday morning after missing their flight from the USA, which was due to have arrived 24 hours earlier.

And Hearn reckons cocky Crawford should have been in Scotland at least two weeks before his date with destiny.

Hearn said: "I would not take a fighter across the Atlantic anything less than two weeks before a world title fight.

"Last August I had Darren Barker in Atlantic City two-and-a-half weeks before he was to face Daniel Geale.

"There are so many things that you need to plan for and allow the fighter to settle in over. To have arrived in Glasgow just five days before the fight is nowhere near enough time in my opinion to give Crawford the time he needs to be in his best shape for the fight.

"But then he has never been out of the USA before and has not fought abroad.

"So it could be that this is all down to a lack of experience than anything else.

"But Terence Crawford is a very talented fighter and maybe all of that just won't bother him. We will know on Saturday."

Although this is Crawford's first pro fight outside the States, he is the mandatory challenger for Burns title and a decorated amateur.

But Hearn is convinced Burns' rival reckons the Scottish fighter should have crossed the Atlantic to face him - not the other way round.

The Matchroom chief said: "From what we have heard, Crawford is far from over-the-moon about having to come to Scotland to challenge for the title.

"He is the Golden Boy in the lightweight division for Top Rank. Apparently he expected the fight to be handed to him in his own backyard.

"But when you are mandatory challenger you take 25% of the purse and the champion gets 75% and the bottom line is the Americans didn't pay up."

For his part Burns, who took part in a public workout yesterday, was keen to avoid getting involved in early pre-fight trash talking.

The champion said: "I am not getting involved in that.

"He is coming to take my world title from me and I am sure he will be in the best shape of his life for Saturday night."
