WILLIE LIMOND and Charlie Flynn are set to be honoured in a star-studded awards bash this weekend.

Glasgow fighter Limond, who is due to make the first defence of his British light-welterweight title next month, will receive the Boxer of the Year gong from the Scottish Ex-Boxers' Association on Sunday.

The 35-year-old won the belt last June at the Braehead Arena in a unanimous points decision over Curtis Woodhouse, and his efforts have now been recognised.

While Limond collects the top prize - which is due to be presented to him by Ricky Burns - Commonwealth Games icon Flynn is also in line for the one-off Dick McTaggart Award.

The Newarthill boxer, who has since turned to the pro ranks following his gold in Glasgow, will receive the prize along with former Team Scotland puncher Josh Taylor from McTaggart himself for their efforts to Scottish boxing over the last 12 months.

SEBA secretary Hugh Dickson said: "It's a delight for us to be recognising some of the fighters who have made 2014 such a special year for Scottish boxing.

"In my opinion, Willie is such an under-rated boxer who has a very, very good record. His last fight was just a joy to behold. He produced a display of old-school boxing and dropped a guy with a left upper-cut and then the right. It was fantastic.

"He is a true gentleman and we're also delighted Ricky can be with us to present the award."

Turning to the duo of Flynn and Taylor, Dickson added: "Charlie is a celebrity already. I've spoken to him a couple of time in Peter [Harrison's] gym and he is a lovely lad.

"I saw him in action when he was an amateur, and Charlie is just a great prospect in the pro ranks. Everyone at SEBA wishes Charlie all the best.

"Josh is a nice boxer. I said if there was an award for best boxer, he would have won it. He was a star during the Commonwealth Games and it's only right his and Charlie's efforts are both recognised by us."

The event, which will be attended by Scottish boxing icon Alex Morrison, will take place in the Iron Horse on West Nile Street in Glasgow, with a 2pm start.
