It wasn't quite the four-point weekend Braehead Clan were hoping for.

However, there were plenty of positives to take as the Glasgow club's upturn in form continued in a double header that yielded one victory and one loss over Friday and Saturday.

Following up on a first win of the campaign a week earlier, Ryan Finnerty's charges claimed a maiden home victory in their first clash of the weekend by seeing off Dundee Stars 3-1 in the Challenge Cup.

Clan kept their cup hopes alive as Corrie Cowick got the home side off and running as he tapped home an Alex Leavitt shot, only for Joey Sides to level in the second.

But Finnerty's team were not to be denied as late goals by Matt Beca and captain Matt Keith sealed the points.

That set Braehead up nicely for a visit to Sheffield to face league title holders the Steelers at the Motorpoint Arena.

It took the Steelers just under five minutes to open the scoring as Ben O’Connor got the interception and fired one on target, with Robert Dowd finishing the resultant rebound before Cowick got his second of the weekend to make things all square.

It was not to last though as Matthieu Roy, O'Connor and Andreas Valdix helped the home side race away into another lead.

Craig Peacock and Beca would claw the game back to 4-3 as Braehead surged into the contest, but O'Connor would later grab his second to put the tie beyond doubt.

"It was disappointing on Saturday night," said Finnerty. "We battled back and played well for 11 minutes.

"Overall, I thought we had good spells and bad spells, but I'm not definitely not concerned about where we were on Saturday. Another night on another balance it could have gone the other way."
