RYAN FINNERTY is desperate to see inside the minds of his stuttering Braehead Clan players in a bid to kickstart their season.

The Glasgow side continue to frustrate their Canadian coach as the season lurches towards November as his men sit eighth in the Elite League table with just six points after 10 games.

A lot of time, effort and money has been invested in pulling together a squad from across the continents capable of delivering the first league title to the Braehead Arena in Clan's existence.

Given that fact, Finnerty is understandably frustrated at the lack of progress from a group that he knows can do so much better, a fact that was underlined at the weekend as they went down 3-0 at home to Dundee Stars on Saturday before winning on penalties 24 hours later on Tayside.

“We’re not there right now and not establishing that," said Finnerty. "It’s tough and a challenge to find out what’s making these guys tick.

“It’s frustrating for any coach to stand by a group you know can be better. As a group and as a unit, we can be very good.

“It’s a group that’s taking something negative to get them going. We can’t afford to let other teams dictate and see what other teams are bringing.

“Obviously I was pretty frustrated on Saturday, the way we started that game and we left ourselves with too much to do.

“I’m pretty disappointed we came out of that performance on Wednesday looking so flat in front of our fans.

“The last 40 minutes we dominated, but we let Dundee grow into the game and Joe Fallon in goal was excellent. That’s what happens when you’re not ready to go.”

It's a tricky weekend that now faces Finnerty's Braehead. They hit the high seas on Saturday with a trip to face Belfast Giants, while the big guns of Nottingham Panthers come to Glasgow the following night.

"We've got a long way and a big mountain to climb but Sunday was a good start to get back on the winning track," added the Clan coach.

“On Sunday, we played in spurts and showed some good stuff and I thought they applied some good pressure. But a win’s a win and we’ll take it just now.

“I have to give credit to the guys after the 4-4. I thought we settled down and we finally got a penalty shots win.

“It can help going into next week’s game."
