BRAEHEAD CLAN’S upturn in form failed to yield the points it deserved during another mixed weekend on the road.

This was the second double header of Clan’s three-week jaunt away from the Braehead Arena as they travelled to play Manchester Storm before facing Cardiff Devils 24 hours later.

Once again Ryan Finnerty’s men produced two fine performances that have been typical of their recent run, but, just like the previous week, they were forced to return north with just two points from four.

The weekend was kicked off in stunning style in the Altrincham Ice Dome on Saturday as Braehead claimed a dramatic 5-4 victory.

Two goals down at one point, goals from Matt Keith, Corey Cowick, Trevor Hendrikx, Scott Pitt and Matt Beca meant the men in white and purple came out in a nine-goal thriller.

Filled with confidence from their second win in Manchester within the space of the week, Clan then made the relatively short journey to Wales on Sunday to visit the high-flying Devils who sat clear at the summit of the Elite League table.

However, they would leave ultimately frustrated. Despite taking the lead twice at the Cardiff Arena, they would eventually be edged out 4-3 in a nail-biting finish.

It was a bright start for Finnerty’s men as Mike Hammond put them ahead in the Welsh capital before Guillaume Doucet levelled things up before the break.

Craig Peacock put the visitors back ahead in the second, a lead that would once again be pegged back by the men in red by Josh Batch midway through the period.

Into the third and it was the Devils who then took the initiative through Doucet and then Joey Martin as Clan’s light looked to fade.

Pitt did pull one back for the visitors with around a minute left to play to set up a nail-biting finish, but it wasn’t to be for the Glasgow side.

After the weekend’s fixtures Braehead finish in eighth place on 12 points with only two more games left next weekend before their December return to Clyde side.

There is less travelling for Finnerty’s side on Saturday when they head east to play fierce rivals Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy.

That will then be followed up the next night with a jaunt along the M8 with the Edinburgh Capitals waiting at Murrayfield.
