It's not exactly been plain sailing for Braehead Clan this season and this weekend was no exception.

An entire month on the road was brought to a close on Saturday night as Ryan Finnerty's men finally returned to the Braehead Arena.

Dundee Stars provided the opposition for the homecoming in front of a bumper home crowd, desperate to see their favourites kick on show some consistency to push up the Elite League.

Instead, a disappointing night saw them crash to a 6-4 defeat to the Tayside club, forcing them into having to go to Dundee the following night to salvage some pride and positives with a 6-3 victory.

Back to Saturday, it was a night of new beginnings as American defenceman Harry Quast was handed his debut by Finnerty with Braehead also wearing special 'Clangus' strips to raise money for Glasgow Childrens Hospital.

Kevin Hart tucked the puck away to open the scoring early on before Vinny Scarsella's shot beat Gary Russell in the Clan goal to put Marc LeFebvre's side 2-0 up.

Then Justin Faryna added to the Clan fans’ misery when he got the tip on Felix-Antoine Poulin’s shot from the blue line and Dundee moved into a 3-0 lead.

Matt Haywood pulled one back early in the second gave some brief hope for the thousands among the Purple Army in the stands but Faryna’s second of the night on a powerplay saw the Stars restore their three-goal advantage.

Michal Zajkowski returned to between the pipes to take over from Russell ending a six-week injury absence, but it made little difference as Cale Tanaka took advantage to make it 5-1.

A Matt Beca double reduced the deficit to two with just under four minutes to play but Scarsella punished Braehead's bravery to pull the goalie only, rendering Alex Leavitt's goal in the last second a small consolation.

On to the Dundee Ice Arena and it was much more like the Braehead that the travelling fans wanted to see the night before, Mike Hammond, Pitt (two), Becca and Leavitt (two) hitting the net for the visitors.

"The guys played ball today," said Finnerty on Sunday night. "As the game went on Dundee may have tired a bit in the third.

"We seem to have their number here and they are the same in our building."

Next up for Clan, who remain in eighth place, is a Challenge Cup quarter-final on Thursday night with Nottingham Panthers in Braehead.
