BRAEHEAD CLAN fans finally had something to shout about thanks to a four-point weekend.

There has not been much cheer around the Braehead Arena in recent weeks as the men in purple have struggled to find consistency in the Elite League.

However, any gloom was blown away in style thanks to back-to-back victories, starting with a 2-1 home win over Manchester Storm on Friday night before defeating current champions Sheffield Steelers away 3-2 in overtime.

"That's hockey," head coach Ryan Finnerty said. "Against one of the best hockey teams in the league our guys competed and carried out the game plan.

"The boys executed well. We got out there with a couple of points and that meant a lazy but enjoyable Sunday off. It was nice!

"We played well against Manchester and in Sheffield we competed. We defended whenw e had to and I thought our D this weekend has been the best it's been all season.

"We are playing with real confidence back there. We're not scoring goals like we used to but I was happy with the way we rolled out this weekend.

"We are a little short and banged up, But guys stuck with it. We had some big kills late at crucial times.

"Overall it was a good weekend and I'm proud of the guys."

On Friday night Clan had the 3000-strong crowd on their feet early on as Mike Hammond sneaked the puck in at the Manchester near post.

It was Scott Pitt with that assist and in the third period he grabbed a goal of his own to put Braehead out of sight.

Eric Neilson did pull one back but it wasn't enough to deny Finner's men.

Turning to Saturday's victory Clan goalie Michal Zajkowski was the early hero as he saved a penalty shot from Guillame Desbiens after just two minutes.

Just 41 seconds later, Clan went ahead, Hammond grabbing his second goal in the space of 24 hours. Pitt would do likewise just a few minutes later when he diverted Matt Beca's shot into the net.

Colton Fretter and Andreas Valdix eventually levelled the game to send it into overtime, but the team from Glasgow were not to be denied with a sudden death goal into overtime.

Next up for Braehead is the visit of Fife Flyers to the Braehead Arena on Saturday night.
