SCOTT BROWN last night revealed he is desperate to win a Treble for Celtic and won't be happy if he fails in his quest.

And admitted that he is still haunted by missing out last season because of the infamous Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle.

The Parkhead captain has been unable to forget the handball that never was by the Highlanders' defender Josh Meekings, which in his mind denied Celtic of a clean sweep in Ronny Deila's first season in charge.

And he is determined to replicate the years of 1967, 1969 and 2001 when his club won every domestic trophy available to them.

Brown said: "The one ambition I have left at Celtic is to go and get the Treble. Everyone talks about it, we were so close last year, and it would be great to do it.

"One decision pretty much cost us a cup final place last season when we would have had the chance to do it. We are getting closer but we need to really go for it this season.

"The semi-final still sticks in my mind because there were five officials and none of them seen it. It’s amazing, that. But five of them had a view. Brilliant.

"I think it was just hard to take. Especially with the decision because we would have gone in 2-0 up at half-time if we had scored the penalty. They would have been down to 10 men and it would have changed the game.

"But these things happen and you have to deal with it. You have to go on to the next season. It’s a new start for us and we have to do what we done, but get past that semi-final stage."

Brown admitted that he will use what happened at Hampden that April afternoon to drive his team forward in the new campaign.

He said: "You don’t want to keep going back to ‘Oh, we could have done it.’ We need to go and do it.

"It’s going to be hard to win the games in the two cup competitions, but I think we have the players in that dressing room who can do it.

"I think if everyone believes then we can definitely push ourselves a little bit closer."

A more immediate goal for Brown would be to get through the tricky three Champions League qualifying rounds which would take the club in the group stages for the fourth time since he has been with the club, staring against the Iceland side FC Stjarnan.

Brown said: "I would just be great to get back into the Champions League again. It’s going to be hard. We’ve got three qualifiers to get through after just a couple of weeks off. But we are coming back fit, which is a good thing.

"It’s always hard to play catch-up on other teams who are two, three, four weeks ahead in terms of their pre-seasons or preparations – especially teams from Scandinavia.

"Hopefully, though, we have that extra little bit of quality on the ball and that will get us through."
