CELTIC target Jelle Vossen has agreed to join English Championship side Burnley.

The Turf Moor club club have confirmed an agreement has been reached to bring the Belgian striker to England despite interest from the Scottish champions.

In a deal that is believed to be worth £2.5million, the Racing Genk forward will return to England after he enjoyed a year-long loan at Middlesbrough last term.

A Burnley statement regarding Vossen, who has two years to run on his contract at Genk, read: “Burnley Football Club has entered into an agreement to sign striker Jelle Vossen from Belgian Pro League side Koninklijke Racing Club Genk, subject to the player agreeing contractual terms and passing a medical.

“A three-year deal for an undisclosed fee has been agreed between the two clubs for the 26-year-old.

“Should he conclude the deal, Vossen will become the first ever Belgian to pull on the Burnley shirt in a competitive game. The only other Belgian player to play for the Clarets was Dimitri De Conde, the current technical director at Genk, who played as a trialist in the Isle of Man tournament prior to the 2001/2002 season.”
