NADIR CIFTCI will be told by Ronny Deila not to step out of line again or he will risk ruining his Celtic career.

The Turkish striker will miss the first six matches of the upcoming Scottish Premiership season for biting an opponent.

Ciftci, as expected, was found guilty of sinking his teeth into Dundee's Jim McAllister, while he was a Dundee United player, during the final game of last season.

The 23-year-old has been given a further ban of two games suspended, which will kick in if he fails to step keep out of trouble between now and the end of the season.

Ciftci has previous in terms of being in trouble with the Scottish football authorities and Deila is sure to have a stern word to him about his future conduct.

If he can't control himself as a Celtic player, where this is far more attention and pressure, the SFA are likely to really throw the book at him.

Indeed, many thought he was let off lightly by missing just six games.

Ciftci's ban does not apply to any of the Champions League qualifiers so he will be available for the club's quest to reach the group stages.

And he will return at the start of September for the vital domestic league clash against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Ciftci originally denied the charge, but he was always likely to be punished given the evidence that was heavily stacked against him.

The Scottish Professional Football League broadcast the incident on its official YouTube channel, with McAlister clearly heard claiming that Ciftci had bit him.

Referee Bobby Madden, who gave evidence yesterday, missed the incident, but within hours of the Dundee derby finishing, photographs of a wound on the leg of McAlister’s were widely circulated on social media.

Tony McGlennan, the SFA compliance officer, investigated the matter and a charge of excessive misconduct was made.

Celtic are highly unlikely to appeal, especially as Ciftci has been in trouble before. They will accept the ban and move on.

In October 2013, he was sent off while with Dundee United against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the League Cup.

He was accused of grabbing an assistant referee by the throat, a charge that was amended to "excessive misconduct at a match by placing an open hand into the lower area of the assistant referee's throat.”

This landed him a two-match suspension, one of those being suspended to the end of the season.

Celtic arrive in Reykjavik today ahead of their second leg of the Champions League qualifier against FC Stjarnan.

The Scottish champions lead 2-0 from the first match last Wednesday and this will have no bearing on their fledgling European campaign.

Ciftci made his Celtic debut a week ago when he started against the Icelandic side and will probably begin the return on the bench, given how well Leigh Griffiths played at the weekend in a friendly against Spanish club SD Eibar. The striker scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win.

If Celtic, as expected, qualify for the next round, they will face either Qarabag, of Azerbaijan, or Montenegro champions Rudar Pljevlja. Their first-leg tie ended goalless.
