Ronny Deila will look for a killer second goal in Baku next Wednesday as Celtic look to see off Qarabag and move a step closer to the Champions League group stages.

The Parkhead side will have a play-off to negotiate if they can see off the Azerbaijanis in Baku next week after their 1-0 first-leg victory courtesy of a Dedryck Boyata header.

And Deila is confident that his side have the necessary attributes to stand tall against Qarabag.

"We are in a good position. If we score then they need three and that is a positive,” said Deila.

"First of all, we need a team. I think player for player we are a stronger team. I believe in my players.

"I think we are individually good and have strong qualities.

"They are a good team, they have had the same coach for seven years working in the same system and they are relaxed and concentrated, so we need to put that together a very good team performance if we are going to get through.”

Deila also highlighted the performance of Virgil van Dijk and goalscorer Boyata.

"We have speed in the team and hard-working players in midfield and strong in defence,” he said. “The two central defenders were class.”

Deila revealed that toothache suffered by Leigh Griffiths kept the striker up most of Tuesday night, meaning that his team selection was made easier.

With Nadir Ciftci and Griffiths vying for a start, it was the lack of sleep the Scotland internationalist suffered with that forced Deila’s hand.

“He struggled with a tooth, he was at the dentist and didn't sleep so much,” said the Celtic manager. “If not, it would have been a hard decision, but I think Nadir played well.

“Leigh came in and was involved when we got the goal, but you could see he wasn’t at it as he didn't have so much sleep on Tuesday night.”

And Deila will look for his central defensive pairing of Van Dijk and Boyata to be strong in the return leg.

"It is hard to say if 1-0 will be enough,” he said."The game is not won yet. It was an even match.

"We had more chances than them, if they had one. We had three or four chances and got one, so that's okay, the result reflects the game.

"I am very happy that we didn't concede anything because we met a very good team who are hard to play against.”
