LEIGH GRIFFITHS believes he and Nadir Ciftci could be a "match made in heaven" if Ronny Deila ever puts them together in the Celtic team.

The manager has so far stuck with his favoured 4-2-3-1 system with the Turk starting all four European matches and his Scottish team-mate the domestic fixtures, which the former Dundee United man is currently unavailable for through suspension.

Griffiths will be in the team for Kilmarnock tonight and he would like the chance to prove he and Ciftci can be a potent partnership.

He said: "Could we play together? I don’t see why not.

“It’s not often the manager goes with two up front but he’s got attributes I could play off and vice versa.

"We could be an ideal pairing. The big man likes to hold the ball up and link up with the other players and I like to stretch defenders and go behind.

“It could be a match made in heaven but we’ll have to wait and see if the gaffer ever uses us as a pair.”

It must have been difficult for Griffiths to watch from the bench as Ciftci began all four European qualifiers so far.

He has managed two goals to Ciftci’s none and a lovely lay-off provided Tom Rogic with his first goal for the club against Partick Thistle last Sunday.

“I just took it on the chin,” said Griffiths when asked about his exclusion. “The manager obviously felt Nadir would offer better qualities than I could in those games.

“But I’ve come on in every game and had an impact. I scored in Iceland and did well against Qarabag when I came on.

"So if I’m not selected against Malmo, hopefully I can have an impact as a sub.

"When we are playing Champions League games, you need someone up there who is going to hold the ball in, link up play and get runners in behind them.

“If we are losing the game or needing a goal, I think the manager would turn to me because I can provide it.”
