CELTIC manager Ronny Deila last night remained positive about his side's chances of reaching the Champions League group stages despite a nightmare end to their play-off clash with Malmo.

Two goals from their one-time flop Jo Inge Berget, the second coming deep into injury time, means that this tie is very much alive at 3-2 when it should be all-but settled for the Scottish champions.

Twice Celtic held two-goal leads and were unable to truly press home their superiority, which allowed their Swedish opponents to get back into a game that at times they seemed utterly out of.

Deila opted to look at the positives, which there many, but even he could not mask his disappointment and frustration of how the game ended.

The Celtic boss said: "Of course we can beat Malmo away, that’s for sure. They have to attack us and that can suit us.

“It doesn’t scare me. We know they are a good team but we are ahead by one goal. We were also ahead when we played Qarabag and defended well over there.

“Of course you get disappointed when you concede a goal in the last second but it happened and we have to look at it overall

“We are one goal ahead and they have to beat us in Malmo. It could be a better result but it is still an okay result.

“We played well in the first half, especially at the start of the game when we were all over them. But it was disappointing in the end."

Celtic were for the most part by the far the better side, which was the reason the supporters drifted away from the stadium feeling less thrilled than they had with 94 minutes gone.

If it goes wrong in Sweden next week then this will go down as a big chance missed.

Deila was unhappy not just with the way Malmo’s goals went in, but also by the defending which allowed them these opportunities.

He said: "They scored with the two chances they had but we have to see how it is after two legs. They have to beat us in Malmo.

“We are very irritated with the last thing that happened in the game but we have to move on and know we are ahead.

“We haven’t conceded goals from set plays this season, that’s one of first. We had two players going for same challenge and the ball bounced down to their player.

"Those are the small details. We had enough people in the box to take care of their players.

“But we scored three goals as well and that’s positive. We are ahead before the second game. I think we had good control of the game and had good chances.

"I’m very satisfied with that. We now have to produce it in Malmo.”

Leigh Griffiths was given the nod ahead of Nadir Ciftci and rewarded his manager with two vital goals. He is sure to start in Malmo next week.

Deila said: “Leigh played well and scored great goals. His first goal was very good play and a great finish. The second one showed he is small but good in the air. He has good skills.

“Leigh had played so many games for us and Nadir had been out for 14 days. Leigh had scored goals and is in good shape. It was a good choice.”

One player who will be missing next week and perhaps for the long-term is right-back Mikael Lustig who left the field on a stretcher with a suspected hamstring injury.

This leaves Deila with the option of the unreliable Efe Ambrose or un-tested Saidy Janko to fill in for the return leg.

The Celtic manager said: “It doesn’t look good for Lustig. We have to see how serious it is."

Age Hareide, Malmo’s manager insisted his side were now favourites having been able to weather Celtic’s early storm.

And he even suggested that Celtic were always likely to get sloppy in the second-half.

Hareide said: “It was a terrible start for us, conceding two goals in ten minutes. It didn’t look good at all. I don’t know what happened we have to look at that.

"Credit to the boys we got back in and at 2-1 we had control of the match. Celtic started to get tired.

“We saw that against Inverness, we saw that they don’t have the legs for 90 minutes. But then we made silly mistakes and you can’t do that at this level.

"At 3-1 it looked down again but credit to the boys we worked very hard to get the goal back at 3-2. Now we have a very good chance to beat them at home we only need one goal."
