Jo Inge Berget has believes that is brace at Celtic Park has put Malmo firmly in the driving seat ahead in the UEFA Champions League play-off tie.

Celtic hold a 3-2 lead ahead of the second leg in Malmo on Tuesday night but Berget’s last-gasp goal has given the Swedes a significant psychological advantage.

“3-2 is a lot better than 3-1,” he said. “It is easy for us now – if we win then we are through.”

And the striker also played down his goals against the team he could not make an impact at last season during his loan deal.

“I came here to have a good football game,” he said. “My time at Celtic did not go as I hoped so it was good to come here and have a good game.

“It is two important goals for the club and to keep the game alive. For me personally it was good to get the goals. Some of the fans booed a bit but I also got some claps so that proves that they are good guys.

“They support their team and do whatever they can.

“I have always known that I can do it. But I wasn’t at my best when I was at Celtic – I would be the first to admit that. I got my chances when I was at Celtic and did alright in some and not too good in others.”

Meanwhile, Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon remains confident that Celtic will score in Malmo next week.

“We are capable of winning over there,” he said. “Both teams looked capable of scoring goals and I would expect a similar game over there. Both teams are very attack-minded but I hope that we are the ones to come out on top.”

And the goalkeeper admitted that the defensive lapses of concentration are a concern ahead of the return leg on Tuesday evening. However, he had no answer as to why the Hoops backline looks increasingly porous.

“I don’t know the reasons for that, otherwise I would fix them,” he said.
