Aussie midfielder Tom Rogic believes that Nir Bitton has set down a marker for the rest of the Hoops midfield to follow.

Bitton signed an extension to his contract earlier this month as he committed his immediate future to Celtic and Rogic has maintained that the midfielder has consistently produced a level of performance for others to follow.

Rogic and Bitton were both on the scoresheet yesterday afternoon in Dingwall, as was Leigh Griffiths, as Celtic cruised to a 4-1 win over Ross County but it is the Israeli who caught the eye of Rogic.

“I think we were all delighted with the news that he has signed a new contract here because he has been excellent for a long time,” said Rogic. “He is a real class act.

“I am a different kind of player to Nir but there are some similarities. He had to wait a little before getting into the team and staying there and he showed what some hard graft can do.

“He has been phenomenal for us. He is always so composed on the ball, very rarely gets flustered and he has an eye for a goal. There is no doubt that he is a great example to all of us. He is just a young guy as well and he will only get better.”

The result took some of the pressure off of Celtic manager Ronny Deila who now welcomes the impending break now for international football.

Four of the Celtic players are off to represent their countries, Rogic included, and the Aussie is confident that a change will be as good as a rest.

“It is a long journey but that is just part of it,” he said. “I am used to it. I have been looking forward to it for a while because it is the first time I will get to play for my country in Canberra, where I am from.

“I will have family and friends there at the game, which isn’t the norm for me! I am really looking forward to it. It is a lot of travelling but if you come back from a good experience then it can give you a bit of a lift as well.”

And Rogic has also insisted that it is premature for anyone to write Celtic out of the Europa League just yet.

“There are two games to play and we know that it is still in our hands,” said the midfielder. “If we do what we can then we can get through. It is not going to be easy. But we can achieve it if we can iron out some of the problems we have had at the back.

“But when you see the kind of form that Leigh [Griffiths] is in then you always think that we have a chance of scoring, no matter who we are playing.”
