RONNY DEILA will attempt to bolster his squad this month as he takes a long-term view to Celtic’s – and his own – future.

The Champions League qualifiers in July are the pivotal encounters that underpin the club’s season and any new additions will be made with that in mind.

Whether or not it is Deila who oversees that assault perhaps depends on what follows between now and May.

The Norwegian remains steadfast in his public declaration of security over his position as Celtic boss, although his prospects of remaining to attempt a third charge at Europe’s elite competition may well depend on how stellar this Celtic side are now in the face of only domestic opposition.

Such a word was not on the lips in the aftermath of the weekend win – courtesy of a final minute goal from Leigh Griffiths – but Deila is insistent that Celtic will and can get better. They need to.

However, should the Norwegian fail to land the targets he has in sight, he believes that he has enough within the current pool to go on and land a domestic Treble this season.

Charlie Mulgrew has had a season dominated by time within the treatment room while Scott Brown too has not had his injury issues to seek.

And Deila believes that the return of the duo will enhance Celtic in the run-in.

“Charlie and Scott are Mr Celtic, both of them,” said Deila. “They know what this is about.

"They know what it means to come into the team and get results.

“They do not like to lose. They are winners and that can inspire the people around them to have the same approach.

"That kind of leadership on the pitch can be so important. It has been a difficult season for Charlie because he has missed so much of it so in some ways it will be like having a new player when he is back in the team.

“He can play in different areas of the pitch too which is good to have, and we all know the qualities that Scott brings to the team.

"Hopefully we can have them both back and available for most of the second half of the season.

“We have spoken about what we want to do in January and of course we have our own ideas about what that is. Ideally we would be able to go and get what we want but it does not always work like that.

“What we do believe is that right now this squad is strong and it is good enough for us to build a successful side.”

Deila will take his side to Stranraer this weekend as Celtic attempt to start plotting a route to the Scottish Cup.

The Celtic manager has never shied away from his belief that he has to speak publicly about his ambitions for his side and as such he remains confident that a domestic Treble can be within reach this season.

Not that he will be accused of taking Stranraer lightly.

“I don’t care how we win, only that we do,” he said. “It is a difficult game and I think it is always very tough to play a team in a lower division in a cup competition, all the more so when it is away from home.

"Some of it comes down to attitude and to preparation and we will treat them with respect, that is for sure. We are going to do everything that we can to be ready. This is a cup final for Stranraer and it is up to us to be professional and ensure that our approach is the correct one.

“All that matters is that we win the game and get through the tie. No-one remembers a performance, only the result.

"So if we scrape through, I don’t care. It is about making sure we win the game, that is all.

“We saw last year how everything is possible. We were so close. But also, you can see how hard it is.

"There is a very long way to go and our goal will always be to win everything but it is difficult.”

The winner over the Jags on Saturday afternoon was the 200th goal Celtic have scored under Deila, although the Hoops boss was unruffled by the milestone.

“I don’t have anything to compare it to – I don’t know how it stands compared to other records,” he said.

“But we set up to try and score goals and 200 isn’t too bad but we want to keep it going. It is always about what comes next.”

The problem this term has not been so much as the scoring of goals as the cheap concession of them.

Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic are still trying to find their rhythm together although Craig Gordon has shown something of a return to form of late.

“Craig has one great save at the weekend, although I think it would have been offside but he did not know that at the time,” said Deila.

“We had something special against Partick and that was a goalkeeper and a goalscorer. They were the difference.”

Meanwhile, Tyler Blackett, who has had an ignominious time at the club this season, is not packing his bags for a return to Old Trafford just yet.

“Tyler is still here,” said Deila. “He has not been recalled by Manchester United. We haven’t heard anything about him going back to Manchester United.”
