I WAS pleased to see that Celtic had spoken to Malky Mackay about the manager’s position at Parkhead.

It doesn’t mean that Malky will get the job which Ronny Deila will vacate following the Ladbrokes Premiership match against Motherwell at Parkhead tomorrow.

The Celtic board is just, quite correctly, going through the process of speaking to all of the outstanding candidates.

But I think he would do well if he got the nod.

The same also goes for many others who have been linked with the post – Roy Keane, Paul Lambert, Davie Moyes and Brendan Rodgers.

There may also be a dark horse that we don’t know about. Deila was a bit of a surprise appointment back in 2014.

I know there are some Hoops supporters who wouldn’t welcome Malky’s appointment,

But he has great coaching and managerial experience at a high level and enjoyed success at Cardiff.

His time there ended in disappointment when he was sacked. His reputation, too, has been tarnished by the controversy over the text messages which he sent which were allegedly racist and sexist in their nature.

I don’t know the full story about what went on at Cardiff, but I know Malky personally and I can tell you for a fact he is not that type of bloke. As I say, I think he would do well if he got it.

I have no doubt some supporters would try to make an issue out of the text message controversy if he got it. But I think most fans would accept it and give him a chance.

From a football perspective, he is a good manager and a coach. He did an exceptional job at Cardiff and I think he could do the same at Celtic.
