I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend send-off for Ronny Deila.

We had all come to accept some months ago that a change would be necessary but it was a very dignified exit from the Norwegian and I am sure that the memories of Sunday afternoon will live with him for the rest of his life.

It was a nice way for him to bow out of the club and it was a cracking display from Celtic.

Granted, and without wishing to put any kind of dampener on either the performance or the result, you would have to say that it was a Motherwell side who turned up with their holiday hats on. They really were abysmal.

But at the same time there was a crispness about Celtic, there was no over-elaboration on the ball, they were direct and their movement was excellent.

It all made for a great day with the sun shining and the trophy handed out.

And, when you get to the root of it, it might not have been the season that Celtic would have wanted. The Euroepan campaign was a particular disappointment but at the same time I think it is only right that if you win a league title that you go out and celebrate it.

They have won a fifth successive title and that is something to savour and to enjoy.

We all know that there will be changes and that from the minute the players are back for pre-season training that the focus will lie on getting into the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

But it was right that there was a chance to take stock and simply enjoy an afternoon in which the Ladbrokes Premier League trophy was handed out.

The next few weeks will see changes at the club with some players heading out the door but Sunday’s game showed up the youthful side of the squad.

There were a fair few young faces on display with Jack Aitchison the latest kid to come through from an academy which I believe is the best run one in the country. That hopefully bodes well for the future.
