JOE LEDLEY, the former Celtic midfielder, has returned to light training with the Welsh national squad - less than three weeks after breaking his leg.

The Crystal Palace player has been doing individual sessions after suffering his injury in the London club's penultimate Premier League match and is with Chris Coleman's squad at their training base in the Algarve ahead of Euro 2016.

Coleman has vowed to give Ledley as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of the finals in France and is expected to announce the final 23-man squad on May 31.

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is confident his Palace team-mate is winning his battle to be fit for their country's opening game against Slovakia on June 11.

"He's putting all his effort into it," said Hennessey. "I hope he is in the Euros and I am sure he will be.

"He is a fit and strong guy and always in shape.

"He will be fitter than he was. He is progressing really well and I hope he can play in our first game.

"We miss his dance moves."

Danny Ward, who spent part of the season on loan at Aberdeen from Liverpool, has also been on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has travelled to the Algarve as a precaution, but Coleman is understood to believe that Ward will be fit for the finals.
