CRAIG GORDON believes Celtic's capture of manager Brendan Rodgers is a 'massive appointment' and says the players 'can't wait' to start the season.

The Northern Irishman was announced as the new Hoops boss last month after spells in the Premier League with Liverpool and Swansea City. 

His arrival has been met with much excitement among fans, and Scotland goalkeeper Gordon underlined that the players are feeling the same way.

Glasgow Times: Chris Davies is assistant to Brendan Rodgers.

"It's a massive appointment, he's a huge name with a great track record so for me personally it's very exciting," he said to the BBC.

"I think that the rest of the players have the same mind set, that they can't wait to get in and see how he wants the team to set up, how he wants us to play and what he wants us to do.

"That's the most exciting part of it going in to pre-season. Normally you dread going back in, thinking it's going to be hard work. But the excitement isn't only from the players, I was at Celtic Park this morning and the staff and everybody around the club is so looking forward to the start of this season - as players we're no different."
