FORMER Celtic defender Tosh McKinlay says Brendan Rodgers has brought the excitement back to Parkhead and praises the reception he's had from fans.

The ex-Liverpool manager was unveiled in front of 13,000 fans at Celtic Park after his appointment and McKinlay says it was unlike anything he's seen before.

There were long queues outside the Bhoys ticket office on the day that the general sale for season tickets opened as anticipation ahead of the new campaign builds.

“I was lucky enough to be here under Tommy Burns when we had the biggest share issue that has ever been, with millions raised and that same excitement is back under Brendan Rodgers," McKinlay told Celtic's official website.

“I have never seen such a reception for any manager in the world that Brendan got a few weeks ago so everyone is really looking forward to the start of the season.

“When I was playing I was very fortunate that it was packed here most weeks, with the football we were playing and the entertainment we were giving the supporters. It was fantastic to be part of that.

“I think Brendan will bring that back. Everything is on the up at Celtic Park, and you can see that in the way everyone is buying up the season books and looking forward to the new season. The Herald: Brendan Rodgers appears comfortable with the pressures at Celtic, according to Davie Hay

“It’s the enthusiasm and the passion that Brendan shows. There were 13,000 that turned up the other week at Celtic Park and most teams don’t get that for a game and it shows that the punters are really looking forward to seeing Brendan on board.

“He’s a manager of high calibre, being at Liverpool, Swansea and Reading and he has obviously been over the course in European football but it’s really the passion and enthusiasm he has for Celtic Football Club, and everyuone is looking forward to seeing that."
