CELTIC have announced that striker Carlton Cole has left the club after making only five appearances.

The former England international was released by West Ham last summer and joined the Hoops on a free transfer, but failed to make an impression.

Cole scored one goal in a total of five appearances at Parkhead, but failed to register a single strike in the Premiership.

His last outing for the Bhoys came against in the 8-1 win over Hamilton in January.

The 32-year-old had signed a two-year deal with the club in October, but Celtic today announced that he has been released.

A club statement read: "Celtic Football Club today confirmed that Carlton Cole is leaving the club.

"Everyone at Celtic would sincerely like to wish Carlton the very best of success for the future."
