Kieran Tierney's had a little taste of what most of his contemporaries will be doing this summer when he enjoyed a 10-day break in Tenerife - but the young defender wasn't slacking when it came to his fitness.

The 19-year-old, who doesn't drink, took a breather but kept one eye on the season that lies ahead.

"I went to Tenerife for ten days and then went to the Isle of Man," he said. "That was great, the weather was outstanding.

"I went to Rod Stewart too and what a guy he is. He put on some show. I had front row tickets. It was perfect.

"I worked with Mark Dickson, who is a personal trainer, over the last few weeks. He's great with me, it's good training and gets me ready for pre-season. I did all kinds of strength and conditioning and fitness work.

"I did some boxing pad work too. I feel fit and ready to go.

"It was good to have some time off but the hard work starts now.

"Everybody is buzzing to be back and we just want to start kicking a ball again."

Tierney has already impressed new boss Brendan Rodgers but the grounded left-back is determined to maintain the same approach that saw him earn first-team and full international status last season.

"I just need to work hard and try to impress the new manager," he told Celtic TV.

"We met with him on Monday and it went well. He was showing us what he thinks and what he wants us to do.

"It was great to hear he was the new manager. He has great experience of working with youngsters and he's a Celtic fan too.

"It always helps if you know what the club is about and he does."
