LINCOLN RED IMPS goalscoring hero Lee Casciaro revealed he fancied scoring a goal against Celtic's slow defence.

The man who also found the net against Scotland at Hampden got the winner for the minnows of Gibraltar on a night of infamy for the Parkhead club.

Casciaro was confident before the game that the miracle, as his own team-mates called it on Monday, could happen and did not rule out finishing off Celtic in the return game.

The Red Imps star man said: "It is an amazing night. We had a gameplan, we came out fast and knew they were going to struggle with pitch and weather. The main objective was to hold them out and get them on the counter-attack.

“This is something people dream about. This result is a remarkable thing for football. We have only been in UEFA for three years and so to get this win against Celtic, a big club, is something we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

“I knew we would get a ball over the top, I’m quite quick and I knew the defenders were a bit slower. I knew they would not outrun me so I popped the ball over them and put is past the keeper.

“I played against one of them (Erik Sviatchenko) last season so I knew about him. I know my strengths and weaknesses and so if I got the right ball then I would cause them problems.

“It is a great story. I will never forget this. We have another 90 minutes to go and hopefully we will enjoy ourselves. We will see what we can do."

The big question now is will Celtic and Brendan Rodgers be able to get themselves right for the next game.

As Casciaro spoke to the press his own father shouted that his side would go through, although the player himself was more cautious.

He said: "Can we go through? Hmm, it is difficult to predict. Did I think we would win? Maybe not win, but I knew we would cause them problems.

“We knew they would press us and leave gaps at the back. So any loose ball or defensive lapse would mean I would get a chance. Luckily enough I scored.

“The second leg will be harder and quicker. The weather will benefit them and we are not used to paying on grass pitches. But we will see what we can do and enjoy ourselves. That’s the main thing, we need to enjoy ourselves because we have been thinking about these dreams since we were young.

“I have been lucky enough to score at Hamdpen Park so if I could score at Celtic it would be unimaginable.

"This goal means more because we won. We lost 6-1 to Scotland so scoring that day wasn’t beneficial for me. Scoring against Celtic and winning is the main aim of football."

Defender Roy Chipolina, who had a superb match, used the M word to describe what had happened at Victoria Park.

He said: "I didn't think that miracles happened but that's what this is. It was a miracle and hopefully there is another in Glasgow.

"I said it would be the biggest shock ever and I stand by that. We were playing amateur football three years ago. You have no idea what this means.

"It's massive for the club and for Gibraltar. It's the best moment of my career. For this group of boys to go and beat Celtic...wow, I'm speechless."
