GORDON (5) Went from the high of the penalty save to the red face from that catastrophic second goal he ought to have been so much stronger with. Horrendous goalkeeping when he and Janko conspired to fluff the easiest of clearances. Booked for time wasting as Celtic clung on.

JANKO (2) Nightmare of a performance. Lunged to concede an early penalty and then barged Gordon to set alight the Hapoel comeback. Astonishing that he lasted the full 90 minutes after looking out of his depth from the opening minutes.

LUSTIG (6): Deployed at the heart of defence as Celtic looked to use all their experience to shore up the backline yet it was the Swede who had the first half chance of the night for the Hoops when he volleyed over the bar from the first corner of the night.

TOURE (6): Used his experience at times to steady what was the most nervous of Celtic defences.

TIERNEY (5): Caught flat-footed on the line when Hapoel opened the scoring and never quite found the composure that has been a mark of his performances at this level.

BROWN (5): Became Celtic’s most experienced ever European performer when he eclipsed Billy McNeill’s long standing European record of 69 games. However, not one to remember for the Hoops skipper. Lost Ben Sahar for the first goal of the night after just 21 minutes

BITTON (5): In at Tom Rogic’s expense from the start, but the Israeli offered very little. Soft in the challenge and spent most of the night chasing shadows.

MCGREGOR (4): Never really in the game but lasted until midway through the second period. Erik Sviatchenko took over for him as Celtic changed their shape as they fought for their lives.

FORREST (4): Replaced by Tom Rogic at the break after a first half in which he saw very little of the ball. To be fair to the winger, that same sentence could have been applied to any one of Celtic’s midfield at that stage.

SINCLAIR (6): Rebuked for kicking the ball out of the play, a naivety that could have led to an unnecessary booking. Worked back at times and unlucky with one blatant first-half obstruction that ought to have won Celtic a free-kick in decent area. Outlet to get Celtic up the pitch and ran the ball into the corner flag to run down the final anxious seconds.

GRIFFITHS (5): Never saw much of the ball. Had one effort from distance just past the half hour mark but effort straight at the keeper. Replaced by Dembele as Celtic tried to cling on.

ROGIC (5) On for the second period and came within a whisker of grabbing a goal.

DEMBELE (5): Came within a whisker of grabbing a goal just minutes after his arrival and then had a good chance beaten away shortly afterwards.

SVIATCHENKO (4): Expected to be sighted earlier than the 65th minute but came on as Celtic fought to hang on to get through.
