The fact that the League Cup is being awarded so early this season gives Brendan Rodgers a fantastic opportunity to get his reign fully up and running, and perhaps put him on the path to a possible treble.

Speaking from experience, as a Celtic manager you want to get that first trophy under your belt as quickly as possible, both for your own sake and for the players and supporters.

So Brendan will want to win his first cup at his first attempt and make sure that he has silverware safely tucked away in the trophy cabinet.

He’ll certainly not want to lose the semi-final of the first competition he has the chance to win, particularly against Rangers.

With that in mind, there is no chance of Celtic taking Rangers lightly, even allowing for the ease with which they swept them aside earlier in the season.

If Celtic were to lose, it would take the shine off what has been a really impressive overall start to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic career.

Sometimes if you are an outsider coming into Glasgow, it can take a bit of time to bed in, but Brendan seems to be someone who totally understands what Celtic is about.

I think he’s here for the long haul. He understands that it might be a period of time before he gets everything exactly how he wants it and then you won’t get performances like Wednesday night.

It’s a learning process and he totally understands that.

Managers like to say they are taking one game at a time, and I’m sure that will be Brendan’s approach for Sunday too.

He also understands the club’s history though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the players were being made aware of the chance they have to enter the record books by winning a treble this season.

It’s not every Celtic manager that has that honour, and I’m sure Brendan would love to add his name to that exclusive list.
