Moussa Dembele believes he is a better player this season that he was at Fulham – and has thanked Brendan Rodgers for the part played in his progress.

The 20-year-old striker took his tally to 32 goals this season with the third goal yesterday as Celtic came from behind to beat St Mirren and progress into the semi-final of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

The former Fulham player believes he has developed his game since arriving in Glasgow – and is still reaching for more improvements.

“In the last 12 months I have improved every aspect of my game,” said Dembele. “I have worked hard at it but since working with the manager, I think my awareness has got much better.

“That is not the only thing. There are other areas that I have got better at – my whole game is better now than what it was this time last season. That is what the manager has helped me with. He has worked with me a lot on the training ground and I feel as though I am getting better all the time.

“I want to keep pushing. I want keep getting better and I feel as though I can do that here.

“I was always confident that I would come here and score goals. I have always believed in my ability. But I am a better player than what I was this time 12 months ago, that is for sure.”

Dembele has been linked with a number of clubs, but he is insistent that his focus has not wavered this term, despite the various clubs who have watched him at Celtic Park.

The win over St Mirren has ensured that Celtic are effectively just two games away from a Treble – but Dembele has maintained there is a composure about the club as the finish line draws into sight.

“We are calm,” he said. “We are just looking to keep going in every game. It is nice to be winning, it is nice to have the lead that we do.

“But we still want to be better. Every player here wants to get better. We are as hungry today as we were at the start of the season – because nothing is won yet.”

And the striker believes that Celtic’s success so far this term lies in the fact that the Parkhead side go into every game with the same desire to win.

“We treat every team we play against in the same way,” said Dembele. “We won’t go into the game thinking anything else other than that we have to work hard – that is the way we start every game.

“We feel confident every time we step onto the pitch but we know that there is no such thing as an easy game.

“Hopefully we can get the result that we want.”
