Patrick Roberts could take his final bow at Celtic Park tomorrow afternoon, with the Englishman looking to bow out in style.

Roberts will return to parent club Manchester City after next weekend’s Scottish Cup final after 18 months spent in Glasgow. The winger has been instrumental this season to the manner in which Celtic have dominated the domestic landscape and he would ideally like to head south having helped the Hoops make a little bit of history.

Yeah, you want to put on a show,” said Roberts. “It could be my last game at Celtic Park. You want to go out in style. Hopefully I can show the fans what I can do, enjoy the day and enjoy the trophy.

“I can’t wait for it. I think Hearts should be nervous. I think every team is nervous when they play us. It shows the belief and confidence within us. Every team coming to Parkhead gets nervous, but we can’t let that faze us. We’ll go out like we always do.”

Roberts netted twice in the midweek annihilation of Thistle at Firhill and his overall performance underlined the manner in which he has matured this season under Brendan Rodgers.

It could be that Roberts returns to City this summer and is enticed back on another loan deal if it transpires that he is not going to feature under Pep Guardiola, but for now he is ready to go and stake his claim.

He is appreciative, however, of how he has progressed in the time he has spent at Celtic.

“I’ve played in a lot of games,” he said. “More than I could count. I’ve played in big games and scored goals.

“I came here to do that and win trophies, so I’ve certainly done that. At the end of the season I can look back and say I’ve had a really successful time here. I’m glad I came here.

“We’ve got two games left – one in the league and one a Cup Final – so it’s there for us to take. We want to take the chance. We’ll approach it the same way and if we do that we’ll come out winners. It comes down to us and our mentality.

“It’s been an incredible season. There’s one game left and we have the same mentality going into every game.

“It’s been a good season for us all. I’m feeling confident, positive and it’s good to be scoring goals.”

Celtic’s recent form suggests that there will be no let-up over the next week as they look to home in on what has the potential to be an historic season.

And Roberts attributes the ruthlessness of the team to the philosophy that comes from the manager.

“The gaffer knows what we need to do,” he said. “He makes sure we don’t slip up. We’ll go into the last game the same as we have every game.”
