Celtic became Invincibles after a 2-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park that enabled the club to set a raft of records in the process.

Unbeaten in 46 domestic games this season, Celtic’s mantle of Invincibles has been well earned; 106 goals, 106 points, both new benchmarks set by a campaign in which the Parkhead side have been ruthless in their execution of those around them.

The Hoops players walked out to a wall of sound and colour but the challenge was to make their own noise.

It took them a while, but they did it; Leigh Griffith and Stuart Armstrong netted the goals that enabled Celtic to seal the season with an Invincibles tag.

Brendan Rodgers' side have also set a new benchmark with 106 points, and 106 goals eclipsing the previous record of 103 and 105 respectively, both set by different Martin O'Neill sides.

A Scottish Cup final waits next weekend as they vye for a Treble.

There was much to sing about as Rodgers got his hands on the trophy.

The Hoops boss revealed before the game that in the twelve months he has been at the club he has never once laid a finger on the league trophy because he had played no part in bringing it to the club. His hands will be all over it from now on in.

In fairness, it was a relatively turgid opening half as Celtic toiled to find the fluency that has been their hallmark this season. There were efforts from Dedryck Boyata while Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor tried their luck with long distance efforts, but there was not the same pace and relentless energy to the Parkhead side that there has throughout this campaign.

As such, with the score level at the interval, Rodgers put on Tom Rogic and removed Cristian Gamboa from the fray.

Within five minutes of the restart the change had paid off and Celtic had assumed a familiar position of taking the lead.

It was Griffiths who found the goal that broke Hearts’ resistance when he collected from Patrick Roberts to head home his 105th goal – and equal the record of goals scored in the top flight set by Martin O’Neill’s team in season 2003-04.

Griffiths hit the side-netting shortly after as Celtic looked to reap further goals.

With the pressure off after taking the goal, the hosts sought to ramp up the ante, with Scott Brown coming close with a raking effort inside the box while Roberts tried an audacious effort from the flank that sailed wide.

The second game, though, Stuart Armstrong lashing an effort high into the net after Griffiths has laid the ball off to him.

It cemented Celtic's status in what has been a peerless season.
