BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed that he had his players reaching for the dictionary as he prepared his side to take the Invincible tag yesterday afternoon.

The Celtic manager’s team talk might have left a few of his players scratching their heads – but there was little doubt about the message that has been imparted from Rodgers throughout this season.

“The word I said to them was infrangible,” smiled Rodgers. “That was the word I wrote up on the paper.

“Stuart Armstrong understood it but I did say that for those of you who don’t understand I wrote the meaning in below.

“To be unbroken, to feel that way – I gave them another word for their vocabulary. The definition and how we designed it, that was the purpose of today.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers believes that going through the season unbeaten will be an achievement that is unsurpassed in his lifetime.

It is 118 years since it was last done by Rangers, back when the season entailed just 18 league games.

And Rodgers acknowledged that his squad have written their name into the history books, although he was reluctant to share in the limelight.

“When I’m long gone from here that’s when I will look at it,” he said.

“The job is too big to allow too much self-praise.

“I’m hear to give as much to this club as I can. When you are gone then you will leave a legacy but for now I’m so proud of everyone in the team – the staff because it’s a real special achievement. I’m not so sure it will happen again in my lifetime. You just need to look at when it was done before – the 1890s, and it was only an 18-game season.

“This is a 38-game season and with so many variables in football, that’s what makes it a brilliant achievement.

“You go away and lose 7-0 in Barcelona, you come back and lose in your next performance. There are matches when you are behind, you go to your big rivals, away at Aberdeen, these are all tough games.

“The way they have coped with the pressure, the intelligence tactically, it’s such a hard achievement to keep that focus in games and in training.

“Whether it will be done again, it’s out there for everyone to have a go at. We’ll have a go next year.”

And while the Invincibles tag will forever be associated with Rodgers’ inaugural season at the club, the 44-year-old has insisted that it was never a motivational tool that was employed by him this season.

“It hasn’t been a key feature until probably Thursday night because there are so many things out of our control,” said Rodgers.

“All we could prepare for was what we could plan for. The players had arrived at two games to go and you can’t hide from it.

“It wasn’t about going through the season unbeaten, it was how we did it.

“The tactical discipline shown and the excitement they have given the fans has been incredible and they now stand alone in history which is fantastic.”
